This was a great team building activity.
We charted all about our grown-up jobs.
Since our season changed along with the weather, we made it look a little more like fall in the classroom. In art, we rubbed leaves with wax crayons and then watercolor painted over the top. Together as a class we made a giant tree. This was a great team building activity. Why not use shaving cream to practice making Ww's! It is WHITE. In Social Studies we discussed jobs. This sparked a huge topic of discussion. We charted all about our grown-up jobs. When I Grow Up I Want to Be A...

Our sight word of the week has officially started. I think they're having TOO much fun. I like to make games out of them and they love that. We've done lots of partner work and one day I wore the word on my name tag ALL DAY. They thought it was hilarious. Social Studies this week has been about where we live. Their homework was to memorize their address. These kiddos knew their addresses by Tuesday. Good Job Parents!! ArtNever did I imagine that I'd be teaching ART. I have trouble drawing a stick person. But I have really come to love art with the students. I am able to be creative and incorporate other subjects into art class. Our Field TripThe corn husking field trip was so much fun and definitely worth going to. We learned all about things in the olden days. The students were surprised about how much muscle it took to do the chores. The bees were a favorite. They immediately spotted the queen bee and fought over the bee keeper outfits. This is an animal loving group of kindergartners, so of course they loved the horses. Old time kitchen and jail. Uh oh, these three somehow ended up in jail.
We begin our day with yoga. This helps set the mood for our entire day. These kiddos love having their own quiet time to belly breathe and relax.
Look at these SUPER writers!! Now it's a competition to see who can write the most. I love it! These boys are the best of friends. "Mrs. Hemme, take a picture." We were sitting so quietly on the carpet when I heard a booming sound. My first thought was that it was a student making the noise against the wall. Then the noise got louder and louder and the kids started to notice. Lucky for us, the Santa Fe marching band was practicing. We marched ourselves outside and watched. We loved it. Happy Friday!
I want to start this week by saying THANK YOU!! Parents, I know your job is tough. Then to remember everything that goes along with having kids in school; homework, reading, important dates, and on top of all that...SNACK. I'm just as guilty. I had moments where I rolled my eyes thinking about what I had in the cabinets for snack. But let me tell you...being a teacher and being with these kiddos during their snack time has made me rethink my mindset. Snack time isn't just kids eating somewhat healthy things. It goes like this... prayer, passing out snack (one-to-one), opening snack/milk (fine motor skills), and practicing manners while eating. The real fun begins while the kids are digging in. I sit back and listen to their conversations in awe. Today the conversations were everything from why they did or didn't like coconut...to how coconut flakes are made from an actual coconut...to Jesus bringing coconuts on Noah's Ark. (Thanks Lucy and Mom for making protein balls with coconut.) I was reminded today of this verse "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." -Mark 10:14
They always have the best answers. In math we made patterns. We started with a simple ABAB pattern.
Look at how well they are working. |
