SO many apple activities. This unit was spread out over 2 weeks.

Painting with apples. It took some practice making the star in the middle.

The 3 year olds sorted apples by size.

The 4 year olds "tried" to put the apples in order from 1-10.
They are off to a great start!!

The 4 year olds had to put their name in order. Of course the final product was an apple. :-)

After sorting the apples by color we tasted all three types of apples.
Then we graphed our favorite.

Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes is such a cute story. It has a cute little rhyming pattern with repetition. It focuses on colors, comparing, and sequencing.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes...

I loved this activity. I did end up spreading it out over several days though.
1. Paint the shoes. I let them choose either red or blue (those were the colors this month)
2. Cut the shoes out.
3. Take a picture of each kiddo and print.
4. Have student glue picture, shoes, and speech bubble.
5. Talk about the color of their shoes and have them pick their color sticker.
6. TAH DAH!!

I got very brave with this next activity. I had each student take off their very own shoes (little stinky), trace their shoe, then cut it out. Yes, these are 3 year olds. Surprisingly they did GREAT! It was a great way to practice fine motor skills. After we were done we compared shoe sizes and sorted the shoes by color.

The students made Pete the Cat out of shapes. While making the cat they were practicing listening skills while finding the correct shape. They got to pick the color of Pete's shoes and verbally share.

Buttons, Buttons, Buttons...

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons might be a new favorite of mine. This author is so clever. The kids LOVE these stories. You HAVE to read.

All About Me (3 & 4 Year Olds)

I start my year off by reading the book,
Giraffes Can't Dance. It's a cute story that has some great lessons.

Then we make giraffe hand prints and hang them in the room. I keep these up all year to remind us that we all have different talents and there's no reason to tease others about what they can't do.

As part of our All About Me week I have the students draw self portraits with side walk chalk.

In my 3 year old class we differentiate between boys and girls. You'd be surprised how many 3 year olds don't know their gender.

After we've decided our gender and charted, we look more carefully at our families. We really got to know our kiddos a little better doing this.

NAMES, NAMES, NAMES...

I LOVE this activity. It works on fine motor skills and helps the students with their names. For the 3 year olds I only do beginning letter. With the 4 year olds they have to paint their first name.

Brown Bear Brown Bear (3 year olds)

We start our Unit with reading the story
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Focusing on:
-animals
-colors
-sequencing events

During our carpet lesson I gave each child a color of bear. Their job was to sort the bears by color.

During a small group practice activity I gave each group (2 or 3 students) a paper with 4 circles. They had to listen to directions and color the circles a certain color. Then I gave each group a handful of bears. Their job was to sort the bears by color.

I think this was their favorite activity (mine too). Their job was to color the animal according to the story and then sort their m&m's.
