Community Helpers

All week we added to our Community Helpers chart.
We had quite the list by the end of the week.

Highway Patrol Officer

Officer Dancey (Fancy Dancey) visited us on Monday!

The students were able to touch her weapons, get finger printed, and use handcuffs.

MODOT Workers

Two very nice MODOT workers came to see us on Tuesday.
They brought road signs, part of their uniforms, and a snow plow.

Train Conductor

A real Train Conductor came to read and talk to us on Thursday.
He was very informative.
I think all the kids want to ride on a train now.

Farmer

Farmer Nathan (aka Mr. Hemme) came and read to us on Friday!
He is a dairy farmer and a cheese maker. He even brought some cheese samples.

When I Grow Up I Want to Be A...

I am so glad I did this with the AM class this year.
They really thought about their answers!

I have to brag on my AM kiddos. We have really been focusing on number identification (1-10) and numerical order. These smarty pants were given a penguin and put them in order BY THEMSELVES. I am so incredibly proud of them and how far they've come. They might be ready for Kindergarten but I'm NOT ready
for them to leave me.

This is the cutest book, "Penguins Love Colors"! The PM class absolutely loved it. We really focused on JUST these 6 colors. We then picked our favorite and graphed.

This is a wonderful non-fiction book. There are so many facts about penguins in this story. After reading it the AM class listed as many facts as they could. We had a fun time saying, "Antarctica"!

We talked about COLD weather and even held ice cubes. We decided that cold weather is NOT for us. We are glad we are kids and not penguins.

Counting Penguins

How high can these kiddos count? The answer is REALLY HIGH!!
I am so proud of these ALMOST Kindergarteners!!

This week we counted LOTS of penguins.

Shape Penguins

The students picked their shape penguin. Then we assembled them.
This was a big "following directions" task. The 3 year olds did great!

The Mitten

"The Mitten," is a great story to go along with our mitten week. We did so many things with this story; compared mittens and gloves, learned about different animals, and sequenced events in the story are a few things.

Some of the kiddos are getting good at recognizing numbers. WOW!

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

Luckily, the weather cooperated with us. We got our SNOW!! So Ms. Jan brought it inside. We felt it, experiemented with it, build mini snowmen, and made snowballs. We may have not gotten an actual snow day, but we made our own.

Some kiddos even tasted the snow. (Don't worry it was WHITE)

The students counted snowflakes then got to put that many snowflakes on their paper. Aren't these cute. Some really look like they're trying to catch
snowflakes on their tongue.

Some may think this is just a "cut and paste"....but it serves so many purposes in preschool. Cutting is such a vital skill that prepares kids for Kindergarten. These 4/5 year olds are practicing cutting and using their fine motor skills. Today we matched winter clothes to the correct body part. Jacob did a great job!

The BIGGEST Snowman EVER

We began by reading this book, "The Biggest Snowman Ever." It's about TEAMWORK. What a great introduction. After reading it we used teamwork to complete the next activity.

Another fine motor activity. I am always talking to my kiddos about "finger muscles". You need finger muscles for cutting, holding a pencil, writing your name, etc.

The AM kiddos tore all the paper and made the BIGGEST snowman EVER!

The PM kids listed all the parts of a snowman and then added them to our BIGGEST snowman EVER!

The PM class is getting so good at counting. I had each student count out loud to me. Then they got to put that many snowflakes on their paper. Look how cute they turned out. We've talked all week about things to do in the snow...this is one of them.

Snowmen At Night

We started out by reading the book, "Snowmen At Night." Then we talked about what snowmen do at night. Some of their answers were very creative.

The PM class made these cute little snowmen at night. The tore the paper first to work on fine motor skills. Then they followed directions to make their snowman.

NAME SNOWMEN!!

The AM class has really been working hard on their names. We are writing them, putting them in order, and identifying the letters.
These kiddos are going to blow the Kindergarten teachers away!
