Two books that I read this week.
Here is the YouTube link for the first book. (A little scary for the 3 year olds)

The 3 year olds read Go Away Big Green Monster and then made their
own green monsters.

Step 1: Paint paper plate green (green was our focus color this week)
Step 2: Glue on the parts of the face (focus on circle, rectangle, triangle, square)

The 4 year olds chose a shape for their shape monster. We counted and then assembled the monsters. Our focus was body parts, colors, and counting.

This is an activity we did during center time. First the students counted the eyeballs then put the monsters in numerical order.
We are working on identifying numbers.

I think I am finally grasping this preschool thing.
I am LOVING the themes that we do weekly.
I've learned that Pinterest is my best friend!!!!
A few books that we read.

This is a longer story but my 4 year olds really enjoyed it.

Here is the YouTube read aloud

Our cute little cats turned out great. The 4 year olds reviewed their shapes, practiced cutting skills, named body parts, and counted the 6 whiskers. I love how these turned out.

The 3 year olds sorted by size. We sang a poem about a bat that had flappy wings that swooped. We sure are building their vocabulary.

Shadows of the Moon...

I LOVED this.

Step 1:
Paint a white circle with black water color.

Step 2:
Sprinkle with salt to soak up the water. (this is what gives it the "moonlike" look). Perfect opportunity to teach the color gray!

Step 3:
Let Dry

Step 4:
Have students pick their cat or bat. I let them choose the color also.

Step 5:
Count the cats or bats, discuss the color.

Step 6:
Have students repeat the sentence.

A few books for our Spider theme...
Picture
The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle is a must. With the 4 year olds I had them recall the sequence of events. We put the animals in order from when they talked to the spider.

Silk The Spider is a sweet YouTube story.

OF COURSE you have to do the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

There is the cutest Just Dance video to the song. My kiddos loved it.

We learned that spider have 2 body parts, 8 legs, and up to 8 eyes.

Making our own web...

Picture
I had the kids take turn being the spider. We would pretend the other students were trees or things to attach a web to. After our web was made I had the students hold it extra tight and close their eyes. We pretended to be a sleeping spider. I then made vibrations in the web to mimic a bug flying into the web. They thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Picture
Picture
The 4 year olds sorted bugs. They had to put the spiders in one group and all the other bugs in the other group. We practiced cutting and gluing skills as well.
Picture
The 3 year olds focused on the colors ORANGE and BLACK this week.

(I love my Dollar Tree finds, webs and spider rings!)
Picture
Our number focus this week was the number 8. We practiced counting 8 spiders on a web. We then sorted the "spiders" by color and then size. The 4 year olds practiced writing the number 8.

Edible Spiders!!

Pumpkin Volcanoes

You will need:
-a hollowed out pumpkin
-3/4 cup of warm water inside
-4 drops of dish soap
-food coloring (optional)
-3 tablespoons of baking soda
-1/4 cup of vinegar
-a container to catch the liquid

We had so much fun. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever. "Bolcanoes" as they called them.

3 Year Olds

The 3 year olds got to practice their fine motor skills tearing paper. We made pumpkins and talked about the color, how it was round, and it's stem.
Picture
Picture
We had a fun day of finger painting. We learned that red and yellow make orange. We added our hand print to make our stem.
We read this great book Spookley and discussed shapes.
Picture
Picture
The 3 year olds focused on shapes this week. They voted on their favorite pumpkin shape and them created their very own.

Picture
We examined the inside of a real pumpkin then reflected. They glued actual seeds inside and string for the "stringy gooey stuff".

4 Year Olds

Just like with our apples, we cut our names up and put them back together to create our pumpkin.

We measured ourselves with pumpkins.

We compared apples and pumpkins to bring our unit to a close.
