Penguins

Penguin Week is a fun one. The kids really get into it because they are animals they aren't that familiar with. They always have lots of questions.

The students helped me label the penguin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We are still working on following directions and colors with the Afternoon Class. Dane did a great job following directions and writing his name.
He is KINDERGARTEN ready!

Shape Penguins are one of my favorites. Each student got to pick their favorite.
We reviewed shapes too. Then we made our very own shape penguins.
This required lots of listening, paying attention, and following directions.

This next activity requires LOTS of higher thinking and problem solving. The activity started with a whole group activity. The students took turns rolling dice. Javier rolled a 3, so he got to put 3 penguins on the Smart Board. The next student also rolled a 3, so he got to put 3 penguins on the Smart Board. As a class we counted the penguins, added them, totaled them, and wrote them. The activities covered so many areas. These kids are learning so much and their problem solving skills are way above level! I'm so proud!

After doing the whole group Smart Board activity each student was able to do the same independent activity.

First, they practiced cutting and cut all their penguins out. Next, I counted with them. However high they counted is how many penguins they got. Then, each student glued the penguins on their paper.

Skills= cutting, color identification, gluing, counting, adding, number recognition, and of course following direction.

Mittens

Our week began by reading
"The Mitten," by Jan Brett.
This version on YouTube is actually read by the author.

After reading/listening we charted what we would put in our LARGE mitten. Their answers were very interesting.

Both classes measured themselves with mittens.
We have some tall kiddos...especially the ALMOST Kindergartners.

Our question of the day was Mittens or Gloves? We charted which was our favorite
or which ones we had in our backpack.

This was a short week. With a holiday and snow day we weren't at school much. Ms. Jan and I sure do miss the kids when they are gone.

Let it Snow...

We began the week charting everything we already knew about Winter.

Then we matched numbers in our AM Class!

Of course we HAD to make snow.
Conditioner and Baking Soda!
(I get the Coconut conditioner. It makes my room smell so good.)

I love how these pictures turned out. The AM Class discussed making snow angels. We even figured out who had actually made a real snow angel (not many).
Then we made these masterpieces.

The PM Class caught snowflakes on their tongues. SO cute! Some of the kiddos got to put a lot of snowflakes on their paper, because they could count that high. Great Job!

SNOWMEN!!! The PM Class got all the parts to their snowman. Ms. Jan and Mrs. Hemme did not help them. Look at how independent they are becoming.

The AM Class made their own snowmen too. They had to put their names in order. Some of the kiddos had very tall snowmen.

Edible Snowmen = THE BEST
All you need is Marshmallows and Pretzels!!

Don't worry, we did not eat them with glue. They got fresh snacks once they were done making their snowman.
*We focused on colors, shapes, smallest to biggest, and following directions.

Welcome Back from Christmas Break!

My Christmas break was full of family and sickness.
ALL three of my kids had some sort of sickness.
I am just thankful I was able to be home with them and not miss school.
I hope each of you had a WONDERFUL Christmas with your family.
